What makes a Pokemon card valuable
Four forces set the price of any card:
- Rarity - how few exist, especially in high grade.

The card that defines the hobby for many collectors. In high grades (PSA 10 especially) it commands enormous prices, driven by nostalgia, the iconic art, and how difficult it is to find in gem-mint condition. This is the blue-chip vintage chase.
Trophy and tournament promos
Cards like the Tropical Mega Battle and No. 1/2/3 Trainer trophy cards were given out in minuscule quantities at events. Their scarcity and provenance push them into the six- and seven-figure range.
The high-value vintage tier
- Base Set Shadowless holos (Blastoise, Venusaur, and others) in top grades.
- First Edition holos across Base, Jungle, and Fossil.
